Washington Porthole Portrait: Small Print
GW by Rembrandt Peale 1823. Because of its unusual shape, this painting is known as the porthole portrait. This is one of 79 portraits that Peale painted throughout his life, some depicting Washington in military uniform as shown, others in civilian dress. The portrait is based on Peale's study of Washington done from life in 1795, when the artist was 17 and the retired General and President was 63 years old.

The stretched canvas print is 7 ½" by 9 ¾" inside the gold frame which measures 9" by 11" overall.
