Tobacco Leaf Sandwich Tray
Traditionally used for finger sandwiches, this versatile tray can also be used for petit-fours or as a trinket tray for you or a special friend!
This extravagant design was originally made in China, likely for export to the Portuguese and Brazilian markets. Of all the 18th-century dinnerware patterns, Tobacco Leaf was among the most highly prized. George and Martha Washington owned pieces of this pattern, and examples are part of the Mount Vernon collection.
A small phoenix bird perches on the vibrant leaves of the flowering Nicotiana (Tobacco) plant. Richly decorated with twenty-seven colors and accents of 22k gold, the design is based on an original now displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
