Mount Vernon Prosperity Lidded Tureen
George Washington had a deep affinity for stoneware and creamware and used it extensively in his home at Mount Vernon. Salt-glazed fragments excavated from the grounds of the estate, in combination with the study of antiques from the same time period, provided the detailed information needed to replicate this Prosperity oval tureen. Special attention was paid to the shapes of the handles, knobs, and detail work. Salt glazed stoneware predates creamware and was popular by 1765.
Made of hard porcelain, all Prosperity pieces are guaranteed stain-proof, dishwasher safe and microwaveable.
The oval tureen is 13 ½" long by just over 10" wide. With the lid in place, the tureen is 9 ½" tall.
The tureen will fit perfectly on the Prosperity 15" Oval Serving Platter which is sold separately.
