This full-color replica map reproduces the historic 1676 engraving by Thomas Bassett and Richard Chiswell, originally created by Francis Lamb. Often called the “Speed Map of Virginia and Maryland,” it appeared in the 1676 reissue of The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine by John Speed.

Considered by scholars to be the final derivative of John Smith’s 1612 map, this remarkable print captures early geographic understanding of the region. Uniquely oriented to the west, the map highlights Indigenous villages and lands, along with early European settlements across modern-day Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware, with particular focus on the Chesapeake Bay.

A beautiful piece of early American cartography, this reproduction is perfect for history enthusiasts, collectors, or decorative display.
