Houdon 8” Bust of George Washington
The most iconic likeness of George Washington is the bust created by Jean Antoine Houdon. The French sculptor visited Mount Vernon in October 1785 to carefully observe Washington's movements and expressions, even making a plaster "life mask" of Washington's face to accurately preserve every detail. Washington was 53 years old at that time. Once Houdon completed the bust he gave it to Washington. The original bust has remained at Mount Vernon for over two centuries.
This high-density composite resin replica of the Houdon bust is mounted on a round white pedestal style base with a diameter of 2 ¾”. Base is lined with black felt. Approximate dimensions: 8" H x 5" W x 4” D. This Made-in-America reproduction bust comes in a white gift box (9 ½” x 6” x 6 ¼”) with a detailed provenance card.
