Mount Vernon Cockatiel 3D Ornament
In 1799, a guest noted the presence of “several species of parrot” on the piazza at Mount Vernon, including a cockatoo. Mrs. Washington and her granddaughter, Nelly Custis, were known to keep a variety of exotic birds such as parrots and cockatoos, which became a familiar feature of life at Mount Vernon for more than three decades. As early as April 8, 1773, George Washington purchased a parrot from the captain of a West Indian trading ship that stopped at the estate.
This beautifully colored 3D ornament represents one of these vibrant tropical birds. A striking addition to home décor or holiday displays, it offers a unique glimpse into daily life at Mount Vernon.
