Mount Vernon Exclusive

Enjoy a traditional Southern staple with these stone-ground white grits from George Washington's Gristmill. In 1771, George Washington shifted from tobacco to wheat as his main cash crop and constructed a new mill along Dogue Run. The innovative farmer added a wharf and began exporting his finely milled flour to Europe and the West Indies.

In 1791, Washington embraced new technology developed by inventor Oliver Evans, installing revolutionary milling equipment at Mount Vernon. Today, you can enjoy grains stone-ground by water power—just as they were during Washington’s time.

These white grits are made from stone-ground white corn, offering a rich texture and authentic flavor perfect for breakfast, side dishes, or traditional Southern recipes.
