"Embracing Your Past to Empower Your Future" showcases the stories of four families whose ancestors were enslaved. Readers will delve into the narratives of Pollee and Rose Allen, survivors of the Clotilda and founders of Africatown, the Madison Family (descendants of President James Madison), the Quander family, recognized as one of the oldest African American families tracing their lineage back to the 1600s, with intertwined family trees affected by slavery and a branch connected to Mount Vernon, and the Brooks family, distinguished as the only African American family in U.S. history to boast three generals in their immediate lineage (the authors engaged with all three). Within the book, readers will encounter previously unpublished historical documents and photographs, enriching their understanding of these families' legacies.
