Our festive ornament replicates the look of Martha Washington's beloved dove brooch.

Martha Washington understood her role as a national figure and the message her personal appearance could convey. She owned a seed pearl pin that may have been one of the "pearl pins and earrings for Mrs. Washington" purchased from New York jeweler Mr. M. Roberts on December 5, 1789. Seed pearls were especially popular in early America. Martha's choice of a dove-shaped pin may have symbolized her hopes for peace and prosperity in the new nation.
