This magnificent porcelain magnolia flower represents the iconic tree of the south, widely known for its fragrant blooms. Magnolias were brought to Mount Vernon by Washington who was looking for the “most clever kind of trees, especially the flowering ones” to enhance the variety of trees around his estate. Today magnolias line the North lane leading to the Mansion.
