Both sweet and savory pies were favorite foods on the early American table. Martha Washington was an avid baker and General Washington is believed to have had a "sweet tooth". Cherry trees grew at Mount Vernon and the cherries, along with other fruits, were picked and baked into Lady Washington's delicious pies. The handle of the Mount Vernon Pie Server is a figure of George Washington, dressed in his officer's uniform as he holds a plate with a generous slice of cherry pie. The handle is 3 ½" long and the pie server is 9 ½" overall.
