George Washington's copy of The Acts of Congress 1789 was acquired by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association on June 22, 2012, for the Fred W. Smith National Library for the Study of George Washington at Mount Vernon which opened September 27, 2013. Through a special partnership between the National Archives and the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, the book was on display at the thirteen Presidential Libraries of the National Archives from March 2013 through September, 2013, at which time it returned to Mount Vernon. One of the most important documents in our nation's history and an essential addition to every American library, this volume, which includes the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights with Washington's handwritten annotations, provides a fascinating perspective of his views on the governance of our nascent nation.

This special edition of the Acts of Congress includes a gilded and embossed hardcover 112-page replica of Washington's book, plus a 48-page softcover companion booklet, written by Washington authority and historian Thomas B. Allen, outlining the genesis of the book and its journey back home to Mount Vernon. Both books are contained in a most exceptional presentation box topped with a beautiful three-dimensional pewter reproduction of Washington's coat-of-arms. The 14 ½" x 10" x 1 ½" box is covered in blue linen with "Acts Passed at a First Congress of the United States of America 1789" showing in pewter colored lettering. The interior of the box is lined in tan colored suede and features a card commemorating the opening of the library.

This beautiful edition of the Acts of Congress 1789 is a Mount Vernon exclusive product.
