Mount Vernon Cardinal 3D Ornament

The Northern Cardinal is Virginia's state bird; it is very distinct with its red feathers, deep orange beak, and a crest that resembles a well-groomed mohawk.

In the spring of 1787, Washington learned that "red birds" (presumably Cardinals) were unknown in France. Since George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette often exchanged gifts, Washington decided to send several of the birds to Lafayette.
