Acts of Congress 1789 – Special Collector’s Edition
George Washington's copy of The Acts of Congress 1789 was acquired by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association on June 22, 2012, for the Fred W. Smith National Library for the Study of George Washington at Mount Vernon which opened September 27, 2013. Through a special partnership between the National Archives and the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, the book was on display at the thirteen Presidential Libraries of the National Archives from March 2013 through September, 2013, at which time it returned to Mount Vernon. One of the most important documents in our nation's history and an essential addition to every American library, this volume, which includes the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights with Washington's handwritten annotations, provides a fascinating perspective of his views on the governance of our nascent nation.
