The Washingtons raised a variety of domesticated fowl, including chickens and turkeys, to supply their table with both meat and eggs. Care of these birds typically fell under the control of the plantation’s mistress.

This Dominique chicken, also known as Dominicker or Pilgrim Fowl, is considered America's oldest breed of chicken, probably descending from chickens brought to New England from southern England during colonial times. This hand-painted, hand-carved wooden ornament is 2 ¼” x 2 ½”, has a 4” jute string for hanging.

Start a farm-animal collection by combining this with our wooden Hog Island sheep and wooden Ossabow Island hog ornaments.
