In 2005, a team of historians, scientists, and artisans at Mount Vernon researched paintings and sculptures of George Washington. They examined letters to his tailor and noted comments on his appearance by his contemporaries in order to learn how he looked at key moments in his life. This careful research, modern computing, and 18th crafts combined, made three full-body representations of Washington possible. The many faces of George Washington can be viewed in the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center at Mount Vernon.
