Silver Irish Shilling Antique Coin
Scarce coin representing King James I (1566-1625) inscribed in latin REX (king) and IACOBVS (James). The English colonization of the Americas began during his reign. He sponsored the translation of the Bible into English, later named King James Bible after him. In the center on the reverse side is a Celtic harp, the symbol of Ireland. The mintmark is a martlet (small bird) which dates the coin to 1604 or 1605.
