"No Taxation without Representation!" In March 1765 Britain enacted the Stamp Act to raise money from the American colonies. It was the first direct tax on the colonies and it provoked an immediate, violent response. The colonists were outraged at being taxed without their consent and refused to pay and began boycotting English goods. The Stamp Act was repealed less than five months after it had gone into effect.

The design on the porcelain coaster is a replica of one used on a teapot to protest England's tax on everyday items. The durable cork-backed coaster is 3 ½" in diameter.
