In 1797, Martha Washington wrote "I am again fairly settled down to the pleasant duties of an old fashioned Virginia house-keeper, steady as a clock, busy as a bee, and as cheerful as a cricket". The busy bee in this plique-a-jour on enamel 18 karat gold brooch is set with diamonds, South Sea Pearl, and citrine. The brooch is approximately 3" wide and 1 ¼" tall. Gold weight is 12.8 grams. Diamond weight is .308 cts.
