Mount Vernon West View Magnet

SKU 10895

Throughout the 18th century, hundreds of admirers, foreign and domestic, routed their travel plans overland by horseback or coach or in boats along the blue ribbon of the Potomac River to arrive at Mount Vernon and to catch a glimpse of its celebrity owner, George Washington. In one year alone, nearly 700 overnight guests lodged in the "pretty chambers", and many more singled out Mount Vernon as a necessary daytrip destination in Virginia. Washington made the tongue-in-cheek observation that "my house is a well-resorted tavern." The resin magnet depicting the west front of Mount Vernon is 2" x 2 ¾". Magnet is presented on a heavy card which includes historical information.
