The Bastille Key is the inspiration for the pattern on this beautifully woven pure silk tie. A symbol of freedom and liberty, the original key to the infamous French prison, the Bastille, was presented to George Washington in 1790 by the Marquis de Lafayette, a leader of the French Revolution. Lafayette had served under Washington during the American Revolutionary War and they became lifelong friends.
This tie was designed especially for George Washington's Mount Vernon.
