Mount Vernon Christmas Camel Ornament
This handmade Mount Vernon Christmas Camel ornament is one of the unique products of St. Nicolas, a British company which has worked with a small Christian charity in Thailand or India for 25 years helping disadvantaged rural women work in their own community by sewing decorations at home.
George Washington was fond of exotic animals and plants. In 1787, he paid 18 shillings for a camel to spend the Christmas holidays at Mount Vernon to entertain the Washingtons and their guests.
The Christmas camel is decorated with gold embroidery which includes the words "Mount Vernon" on the back. The ornament, with gold hanging thread, is approximately 4 ½" x 5".
