Larkspur: Consolida ajacis

Consolida ajacis is native to the Mediterranean and was once used medicinally to stop bleeding and heal wounds. Larkspur is one of the few flowers mentioned by name in George Washington's letters.

This beautiful annual fills late spring gardens with tall, brightly colored flower spikes in shades of purple, blue, pink, and white. Larkspur grows best in full to part sun and reaches a height of 3-5' making it perfect for adding height to your cottage garden or flower border. If not deadheaded, plants will readily self-sow for your enjoyment the following spring. Larkspur is a wonderful cut flower. It may also be pressed or dried for use in crafts and flower arrangements.

Larkspur does not transplant well. Direct sow seeds into the garden in late spring or early fall, 10-12" apart. Cover lightly with 1/8" of soil. USDA Zones 3-9.
