For his first inauguration, Washington chose a plain brown suit cut from American wool and adorned with neatly cast brass buttons that prominently features an American bald eagle. The eagle is emblazoned with a shield on its chest and clutching symbols of war and peace in its talons. Above its head the sun is shining. Today this same design serves as the Great Seal of the United States. The date engraved on the original button is March 4, 1789, although Washington was not inaugurated president until April 30.
George Washington Inaugural Eagle bullet back cufflinks are 5/8" in diameter. The cufflinks are die-struck metal (highly detailed) with a bright gold finish. The flat front cufflinks are incised with the eagle emblem.
