Garnet Cluster Brooch or Pendant

Throughout the 1760s and 1770s Martha Washington acquired many pieces of garnet jewelry for herself and her daughter, Martha Parke Custis. Pieces of Mrs. Washington's garnet jewelry are in the Mount Vernon Collection.
This lovely brooch features garnets, 14kt yellow gold and a trombone safety clasp. The brooch can also be worn as a pendant by slipping a fine chain through the loop on the back. The cluster of garnets measures approximately 1 ¼" in diameter.
