Dove of Peace Suncatcher
One of the most interesting features of George Washington's home is the cupola, complete with its dove of peace weather vane perched atop the Mansion. This final embellishment for the house was added in the autumn of 1787. Washington ordered the weather vane from a craftsman in Philadelphia, where he was presiding over the Constitutional Convention.
The vibrantly colored elderberry suncatcher featuring the dove of peace is approximately 4" in diameter. Handmade exclusively for Mount Vernon by Blenko Glass, West Virginia stained glass makers since the 19th century.
