By Jeffrey E. Finegan, Sr., with illustrations by Preston Keith Hindmarch. ISBN 978-0-9852819-0-8. Copyright 2012. Hardcover with 25 pages including 23 illustrations and bibliography.
At 16 years of age, William Lee was sold in slavery to George Washington and found himself not only at the center of plantation life but also at the forefront of pivotal moments in the early history of the United States. William Lee became Washington's personal servant and accompanied the General hunting and travelling and, most importantly spent eight years on battlefields and in military headquarters during the American Revolution. Colonel Washington and Me is William Lee's behind-the-scenes story of how the original 13 Colonies went to war against the British Empire and established the United States of America. As the colonists win their independence from King George III and the British parliament, William Lee reflects on when he and other slaves will gain their freedom.
