Blue Shell Settee Cushion
Designed for the Three Coins Cast Mount Vernon collection, these indoor/outdoor pillows made with Sunbrella® fabric are inspired by Martha Washington’s shell pattern. The pillows are made with quality woven linen fabric and finished with a YKK waterproof zipper and ticking to withstand the elements.
The cushion design fits the Windsor style outdoor settee. This style of furniture originated in England, and was a favorite in Colonial America. The spindle-back furniture was said to be “of delicate balance and harmony”.
This shell pattern is adapted from a needlework cushion made by Martha Washington and now in the Mount Vernon Museum Collection. Mrs. Washington completed 12 shell-patterned cushions over a period of 36 years. The cushions were used on Windsor chairs in the little parlor at Mount Vernon.
The cushion fits the settee perfectly (43 ½" wide, 19 ½” deep) and seats two comfortably. It has ties in back to fasten to the settee.
