1862 Military Treasury Warrant from Texas
This $5 dollar treasury warrant from the Treasurer of Texas was issued on January 4 1862. Handwritten number 29337 and hand signed. This Civil War paper note features a full-length portrait of George Washington.
A state check, called a warrant, is guaranteed by the State Treasury. The Comptroller’s office promises or warrants that funds will be available when the warrant is presented for payment. The large X drawn on the front side was added when taken out of circulation.
