A truly beautiful $5 banknote issued in Virginia by the Bank of the Commonwealth. Appealing vivid red ink design. Hand numbered 3703 and issued July 9, 1861, just days before the first battle of Bull Run in Manassas, at the start of the War for Southern Independence. Tobacco field and business scene in the center; an oval portrait of George Washington on the lower left; and Virginia's seal on the right.
