1859 $1 Dollar Antique Banknote
This $1 Dollar banknote was issued in 1859 by the Ocoee Bank in the State of Tennessee. Features a vignette of Indians observing "Civilization" in the form of a distant city and passing train. On the bottom left, a frontiersman warms his hands by the fire. A bold "ONE" is printed in red at the bottom of note. Red ink is visible on reverse.
During the Civil War, the U.S. government outlawed the previously legal practice of allowing any bank, company and even individuals to issue their own paper money.
