1797 Copper British Two-Penny Antique Coin
One of the largest coins not only in British history but in the world, this two-pence coin was struck in 1797 during the reign of King George III. The 1797 two-pence was a one-year experiment to mint two ounces of pure copper. The obverse features the draped laureate bust of King George III facing right, with the surrounding legend: GEORGIUS III - D:G - REX.
The reverse shows Britannia seated, facing left, holding a trident and an olive branch, with a shield resting beside, and ship sails in the background to the left. The reverse legend reads BRITANNIA and 1797.
Diameter is 38 mm and approximately 5 mm thick.
