1797 Cartwheel British Penny Antique Coin
One of the largest coins not only in British history but in the world, this coin was struck in 1797 during the reign of King George III. The 1797 penny was an experiment to mint one ounce of pure copper. The obverse features the draped laureate bust of King George III facing right, with the surrounding legend: GEORGIUS III - D:G - REX.
The reverse shows Britannia seated, facing left, holding a trident and an olive branch, with a shield resting beside, The reverse legend reads BRITANNIA and 1797.
