The original painting is attributed to Edward Savage, circa 1792. The View of Mount Vernon, The West Front is one of the earliest known oil paintings of George Washington's residence. Completed during Washington's first term as president, this scene shows the west front and courtyard of the Mansion, with George Washington and his family strolling along the bowling green. No estate in United America is more pleasantly situated than this wrote George Washington in 1790, only two years before this view was painted.
