Mount Vernon's New Room Porcelain Cup & Saucer
The design of this fine porcelain cup and saucer was taken from the bright green pigments and the neo-classical plasterwork of the "New Room" in George Washington's beloved Mount Vernon.
Previously interpreted as a formal dining room, new research suggest the room was only occasionally used for that purpose. The room more often served as a picture gallery and space to receive guests. The room now includes 20 of the 21 works of art Washington had on display. New wallpaper, paint, and window treatments reflect the latest research into the New Room's appearance in 1799.
The cup is approximately 3 ½" in diameter and 2 ¼" tall; saucer is 6" in diameter.
The color scheme and decoration of the cup and saucer are repeated on the attracitve round gift box, ideal for presentation.
