Washington DC Panda Child's T-Shirt
Washington chose the site for the White House and laid the cornerstone of the US Capitol in his namesake city, Washington, DC. In today’s DC, visitors come to see the annual Cherry Blossom Festival and to visit the pandas at the National Zoo. In the 18th century, before there was a zoo in DC, Washington had a significant interest in both domestic and rare animals, and often paid to see them on display. Over the years, Washington and various members of his family were able to learn something about the world outside of Virginia from the itinerant entertainers who traveled along the eastern seaboard for fairs and large events. Many of these individuals worked with rarely seen or specially-trained animals such as the camel that visited Mount Vernon in 1787. In 1766, Washington recorded paying 10 shillings to see a "Lyoness" and later saw a "Cugar" and a “Sea Leopard”.
This red t-shirt shows two pandas, sitting next to cherry blossoms and “Washington, DC by George”. Made of 100% pre-shrunk cotton.
