Throughout the 1760s and 1770s Martha Washington purchased garnet jewelry for herself and her daughter, Martha Parke Custis, from London jewelers. Garnets were popular in Lady Washington's time and remain so today.
A pair of Mrs. Washington's garnet and gold "dropt" earrings are the inspiration for these modern garnet-colored glass earrings. The earrings measure approximately 2" overall. The teardrop shaped deep red crystals are 5/8" x ½" and the small square crystals are 1/5" on each side. The pendants drop 1 ½" from the lever back earring closures.
