Nelly Custis Caroler with Red Cape
Eleanor Parke Custis spent most of her youth at Mount Vernon with her grandmother, Martha Washington, and her step-grandfather, George Washington. After her wedding to Lawrence Lewis in 1799, she moved to Woodlawn Plantation, just a few miles away from her happy childhood home.
The Nelly caroler is wearing a light blue dress and a red, hooded cape. She is keeping one hand warm in a dark brown muff and is holding a large toy hoop in the other.
Mount Vernon's Byers' Choice Nelly Custis caroler is approximately 10" tall. Made exclusively for Mount Vernon. Hand-crafted in Chalfont, Pennsylvania.
