During the Civil War, coins were difficult to come by as people tended to safeguard small change. Stamps were used as a substitute but were fragile so the U.S. government started making small-value paper money which at first resembled stamps.

Washington is portraited on this 10-cent stamp. Nice specimen - Greenback type note made between 1863 and 1867 - still a U.S. legal tender!

  • Approximately 3 1/4" x 1 3/4"
  • Comes in sturdy clear plastic sleeve
  • This is an original note, not a reproduction
